This app focuses on two areas of education: reading and creative thinking. The text appears clearly on each page and is organized well, but could be improved with a bit of text highlighting. Education-wise, it is the content of the story that really shines. Max’s use of the Wunderglasses encourages kids to see the world through different eyes. They’re shown that it’s okay to imagine a different world and reminded always take a second glance at what’s going on around them because things are not always as they appear to be. For kids, learning can sometimes be rigid and focused, but this app encourages them to loosen up a bit and use their imaginations.
At first, the story may seem a tad bit boring to kids. It takes some time for Max to be introduced to the Wunderglasses. It also gets a bit boring at the end when the Wunderglasses are taken away. In between, however, the story is a lot of fun for kids. They’ll enjoy pulling on the Wunderglasses and seeing all of the crazy things that only Max can see. These include aliens playing saxophones, monsters hiding in the clothes basket, and giant heads popping out of the hoods of cars.
The Wunderglasses is priced comparably to other animated ebooks of a similar quality. It offers a lengthy text and plenty of interactive animations for kids to enjoy. The creativity and imagination present in the story make it a great choice for kids.
The app is free from social media, more apps, and other content designed to distract kids from the stories. The story told in the app is also very child-friendly. A few illustrations, namely the topless sunbathers laying on towels on the beach, may be a bit controversial, but they are small and kids may overlook them.
