Several months ago, I had the pleasure of reviewing an app that’s truly kid friendly, Tapikeo HD. We recently got a chance to take a look at the app’s new features. The recent release of version 3.0 of Tapikeo HD comes jam packed with tons of new features. Let’s see if they managed to improve on this already stellar application.
Like before, Tapikeo HD is an app that contains tons of educational and entertaining kid-friendly slide shows of information. There’s a wide range of topics kids can look through, containing multi-media content such as vibrant images and fun sounds. But my favorite part of the app is still the fact that together you and your kids can create your own customizable grid-style stories. The kids love this, and that’s what really made this app a hit around my house.
One improvement that I’m particularly happy about is the addition of a web export feature. Now you can export custom grids in a format that anyone can see, not just folks who have Tapikeo. This was one of my concerns with the app last time I reviewed it, and I’m glad to see the recommendation was taken into consideration.
This revamped version of Tapikeo HD also includes smoother formatting for creating and perusing grids. There’s also a new match game built in with existing grids, like the animal noises one. With that built in game, Tapikeo HD extends its shelf life considerably, although sometimes the matching is a bit frustrating due to accidental selection when the kids just meant to scroll between pages
One of the changes I wasn’t such a big fan of. Now the app contains grid collections that you have to make an additional purchase to download. Yup, that means there are items that can be purchased from the app. Thankfully, these still include a five tap requirement to unlock before you proceed, so I won’t be docking the app for this. I just think with a regular price of $4.99, it would be more gracious for the devs to just give you all the content instead of making you buy individual sets to expand your grid story library.
Bottom line
Tapikeo HD is still super kid-friendly and chock full of awesome content your family will love. Snatch it up while it’s on sale for $2.99.
