Math Blaster Hyperblast 2 HD is a fantastic math game app. It is fun, fast-paced, and offers a large variety of skills and difficulty levels, which allows kids of all ages to be engaged in this fun learning game.
The player steers their character through obstacles by tilting the iPad, shoots & blasts aliens, and defeats enemies by displaying quick knowledge of math facts. In order to earn ammo, bigger & better weapons, and progress through the game, the player has to correctly answer math problems as quickly as possible.
The player can choose from addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and standard form, as well as combinations of these. Also, the player can choose the level of difficulty of both the math questions and the game play separately. This allows for a lot of variability that makes the game adaptable and suitable for kids of all ages and skill levels.
The graphics are vivid, the tilt-to-steer is quick and responsive, and the pace and content of the game are engaging. When I downloaded the game and opened it to play the first time, my son immediately stole the iPad from me so he could play. In addition to the excellent personalization features of the game, parents or teachers can register for free with mathblaster.com and create profiles for up to 6 kids within the app. This way, siblings or students can save their individual games and pick up where they left off, and on the website keep track of their own stats, awards, earnings, etc. – no fighting necessary!
Registration is optional and not required in order to play the game. It is available in both English & Spanish, and a free version can be downloaded if you want to give it a test run before buying. There are no social network or purchase links, although there are links for related games.
Hyperblast 2 is in itself a treat – but on top of everything else, the website offers even more. It is set up to be parent-friendly and child-safe. I won’t go into too much detail, as this review is for the app – but if your kids enjoy the app, be sure to visit the website as well. It does require paid membership for many of the features, but it appears to be a very well-designed site that may be worth the cost.
