It’s cool to be smart, and the new Chess Academy for Kids by Geek Kids app for iPhone is definitely the coolest smart app for kids I’ve seen lately.
This app takes a practical and fun approach to teaching kids the basic rules and strategy for the game of chess. You know the one, where a team of white pieces and a team of black pieces square off across a board, and the player with the best strategy and wits about them comes out on top. Not only does the game of chess encourage kids to think logically, it’s also a lot of fun. But it all starts with learning the rules.
Chess Academy for Kids is just the first in a new line of Geek Kids apps coming out. This app, and supposedly the future Geek Kids releases, starts with a logical tutorial that gives kids hands on experience with what they’re learning. This section is extremely informative and even fun to go through, and sure to challenge players at any age.
That’s probably what I like the most about this app: it’s going to be a lot of fun for kids as they grow and get better at the game. It supports multiple player profiles, so you can review your games and moves. There are helpful in-game options for beginners, like the available moves feature that you can toggle on and off. I do wish it supported a user versus computer option instead of just user versus user, but that’s my only real complaint with the Chess Academy for Kids app.
It’s also entirely kid friendly. This app has no advertisements, no outside links, no in-app purchases and no social media links. That’s what I like to see as a parent.
Chess Academy for Kids by Geek Kids is super well made, rampantly intelligent and entirely kid friendly. This is the perfect app to introduce kids of any age to chess.
