Like most parents, I know that multitasking is a must, not just an option. That’s why I love kids’ apps that touch on tons of educational topics and do it in style. The new Abby – Basic Skills Preschool app is just such an app. This bad boy touches on letters, puzzles, sizes, counting, matching, colors, shapes, shadows, patterns, differences and more, in one streamlined package kids of any age are going to find easy to navigate. What’s not to love about that?

In Abby – Basic Skills Preschool, kids are guided through exercises by an adorable monkey character. There’s a ton of positive reinforcement in the app. Every right answer is a reason to celebrate, something I love. Trains play another huge role in the app. Every time the kiddos got four toys from correct answers, the train of fun made off for the sticker station, and even visited a design-your-own train shed.

Plainly, the tykes in my crew loved this app. And I loved it too, because it allowed me to turn on and off the topics that the games touched on. The little one wasn’t quite ready for letters, so I turned it off with two simple touches. There’s also an info section that you can read to help the little ones learn how to play each of the app’s games.

On the down side, any time you start the game fresh there is a non-kid-safe intro page with tons of links that lead to the app store. So, I highly recommend getting the app started before you hand it to the little ones. Otherwise, this app is great, and quite a good deal. It also just took home a Parents’ Choice Award, it’s that good.

Bottom line

Other than the app’s intro page, the Abby – Basic Skills Preschool app is a homerun.

A recent proud winner of Parents’ Choice Foundation’s Recommended Seal, Abby Basic Skills targets a range of preschool skills such as counting, matching, and colors (in total, there is more than 10 activities!). The cool thing about the app is that parents can choose in the settings which skills they want their children to focus on, so that children can practice only the activities they are ready to handle.

Thanks to its content which covers a broad range of activities, the application is currently one of the most comprehensive preschool apps on the market aimed at preschool curriculum and I think it would make a great app for little home-schoolers.

What’s more, the app is very easy-to-use for small children: there are no complicated menus — just an adorable train which kids love to fill with toys! Regular Price: $1.99
