Lagoona is a very high-quality children’s app. Developers have covered just about every important detail, from making the app easy for children to operate to creating mini-games that are both challenging and beneficial. The app makes good use of iOS’s multi-touch capabilities. The incentive system is particularly ingenious and will thrill almost any young child.
It would be nice to have a protected parents’ area, though. While the activities may be intuitive to young children who are willing to experiment, adults may have trouble figuring out the multi-touch mechanisms that make many of them work. It would also be helpful for parents to get a run-down of why these activities are so beneficial.
Lagoona: Kids’ Activity Center has a lot to offer the preschool and early elementary audience. The games are enticing and fun, the theme is popular, and the skills accessed are crucial to later academic development. It’s a great example of many other skills kids need to learn in addition to counting and saying their alphabet.
The app has 7 mini-games and each of them includes 3 levels of difficulty. The statistic that’s not readily apparent is that each of the levels has levels and puzzles within it, often numbering above 50. There’s a LOT of content here that’s not visible at first glance. Kids will be able to play to their hearts’ content and the app will grow with them as their skills grow.
Mini-games include a color sorting activity, a dot-to-dot activity, painting, shape matching and much, much more. Your child is likely to be playing for as long as you will allow on this great game app.
Lagoona is fun to play. Like many apps in this category, kids can earn from 1 to 3 stars for successfully completing an exercise based on a combination of accuracy and time. Stars are fun in and of themselves for preschoolers, but they do get old after a while. What won’t get old is the larger incentive activity built right into the front page of the app. Since the game is themed around an ocean setting, there are naturally fish swimming around. The colorful and interesting creatures behave almost as though they were alive, and they are very fun to watch-sort of like peeking into an aquarium. Sooner or later, however, your child will find an array of foods sitting in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. Drag a food into the water, and watch the fish race each other to the treat, in a startlingly realistic manner that is very similar to watching real fish swim to get food. Fortunately, your child will be able to play the games to get additional foods when the allotted sample runs out.
Lagoona: Kids’ Activity Center costs $2.99 in the App Store and is an excellent value. The app is easy to use, engaging, and fun, plus it teaches many important and valuable skills.
