Make Free International Calls With Your iPhone

Using your iPhone to make international phone calls over your carrier’s network can quickly drain your bank account. Thanks to a feature that Apple has built-in to your iPhone, you can actually make free international (and long distance) calls anytime you’re within Wi-Fi range.

Why use Wi-Fi and not an app?

Truth: There’s a ton of apps in the App Store that you can use to connect with your friends and family overseas. And they’re all relatively easy to use, and most are free or inexpensive. The problem is that all of these apps operate on the slow side, are somewhat unreliable, and require that both you and the person you’re trying to reach be logged in at the same time.

With a phone call, things are simplified. You place the call, the other party hears their phone ring, and you’re connected.

How to do it

First of all, you’ll need to be within Wi-Fi range. That means you either need to be on your home Wi-Fi network, be connected to a public Wi-Fi hotspot or log yourself into a friend’s Wi-Fi.

Once you’ve done that, follow these simple steps to make your first free phone call:

Step one: Open Settings icon on your iPhone

Step two: Scroll down and open the Phone app within Settings

Step three: Toggle on the switch that reads Wi-Fi Calling

Now, dial!

Wi-Fi calling will not use any of your cellular plan minutes, and you will incur no charges for long distance, local or international calls.
