Vocabubble is a pretty unique app that allows little ones to practice their alphabet while learning new words as they play. The developers have done a great job of creating an app that is easy for young children to play as it appeals to the natural way kids tap and touch the screen to move through the app. The user interface also adds some interest as the letters and images move around the screen as children tilt and move the device they are using, which is fun. There are also some great images taken from Pictorial Webster’s Dictionary that help players connect each word and image as they move through the app.
The basic idea behind this app is to help children practice their alphabet while teaching them new vocabulary words and corresponding pictures as they move through each letter. Players move through the app in sequential order (A, B, C etc.) and as they tap the screen the letter appears. When they touch and hold the letter, an image appears and the narrator reads the word aloud. As players tap and hold the image, the word appears and is read aloud by the narrator which offers another way for children to connect the letter, image, and the word. Overall, this app offers a great deal of educational value for children as they expand their vocabulary and practice the alphabet.
While this app doesn’t include any additional games or activities for children to enjoy, the learning interface is set up in a way that helps to keep children engaged. As players tap the screen and letter and picture ‘bubble’s appear, they tumble and move around the screen as the device is moved. This unique set up is a fun way to keep young children engaged as they learn. With that said it would be nice for children to have an additional game, puzzle, or coloring activity to give them something else to do to stay engaged as they learn. Adding an activity or two would definitely increase the entertainment value of the app overall.
Priced at just under three dollars, this app is priced quite well for what you get. When you consider the fact that there are a variety of words and pictures associated with each letter, parents are sure to appreciate the opportunity for players to add lots of great words to their vocabulary in an easy to use app.
In addition to having an easy to use interface with narration options, the developers have done a great job making this app completely safe and secure for children of all ages. All parent only options are protected and kept in the ‘parents corner’.
