This is my Food is a great app with awesome illustrations, narration, and sound effects that keep children engaged as they learn all there is to know about nutrition and healthy eating. With a simple to use interface that appeals to the curious nature of little ones, this app allows children to explore various areas of the app in their own time. By simply tapping and touching buttons throughout each section, little ones will have no trouble moving through the amazing information that is included within. Very well done!
Education
The developers have done a magnificent job including lots of great information for children to learn. From the very beginning of the app players get to select a character and learn a bit about what is on their plate. By tapping the foods on the plate players will learn fun facts about meats, veggies, fruits, water and so much more. As they continue to move through the app they will also learn about how certain foods grow, how different people eat (vegetarian and vegan), as well as build their own sandwich with their favorite foods.
Kids are going to love this app, but parents and teachers may love it even more as it can be used as a great learning tool in the classroom and at home. The “My Top 5” section in particular is a great way to introduce children to new foods and to track what they like and don’t like. The “Nutrition” section also includes lots of great information about various food groups, energy sources, and how we process foods as we eat. Overall this app is fantastic in terms of the educational information it includes.
Entertainment
While there aren’t any specific games within this app there are lots of great activities that encourage engagement that children will enjoy. With narration throughout, lots of great areas to explore and an activity that allows children to grow and document their own garden, this app is quite engaging. The other activities that allow players to build their favorite sandwich or track their favorite foods and the free play environment really helps children stay interested as they learn. In fact, the overall set up is done in such a way that children may not even realize they are learning as they ‘play’.
Value
Priced at just under three dollars, this app is a great deal. With so much educational information and the easy to use set-up, children are going to get a ton of value out of this app. Great for the classroom or at home this app is certainly a must-have that won’t break the bank.
