Come to a play day at Teddy the Panda’s house. Teddy is ready to show kids his room and all of the fun activities they can enjoy while there. Kids can dress Teddy up, play with his toys, and even watch him jump on his bed. They use their fingers to tell him where to go and what to do. The app moves a little slowly at times, especially when loading activities, but kids will still enjoy exploring Teddy’s room.
- Follows child’s finger
- Multiple activities
- Cute panda bear
- Happy background music
When they open the app, kids are introduced to Teddy the Panda. He is a friendly panda who waves to kids. A button with question marks in the left-hand corner directs kids to use their fingers to move Teddy in different directions. The app responds quickly to a child’s touch, but is a bit too sensitive. At times kids may struggle to move Teddy exactly where they want. They’ll also find that when they tap on an object, such as the wind-up mouse, giant ball, or stairs, that the app lags a little. Kids will keep trying to get Teddy to move while the activity is loading, leading to a bit of frustration. Once the activities load, they work fairly well and it is easy to tap on the x to end the activity and move on to something else.
This app is not being rated for education.
As kids move Teddy the Panda around the room, they can interact with him in a variety of ways. In addition to simply poking and tickling Teddy, kids can dress him up, flip through his photo album, and even watch him jump on his bed. A few activities are more interactive than others. For example, kids can send Teddy up to his bed and watch him jump, which is not very interactive, or head to the closet where they can dress Teddy up in different shirts, hats, mustaches, and other accessories. Some of the activities are a bit hard to find, so kids will have to spend some time exploring the app to discover all of the fun little tricks and fun activities Teddy has to offer.
Teddy the Panda does not have any real educational value and lacks a bit of the quality adults might expect from an app in this price range. It is, however, somewhat entertaining for kids.
A “For Parents” button appears at the bottom of the app when it is first opened, but it disappears once kids start playing with Teddy. This section, which is protected by a parental lock, contains a link to the app’s Facebook page and more apps. The parental content requires an Internet connection, at times it fails to load even when one is present.
