“Old Macdonald Has a Farm” just became a lot more fun for kids to sing. As the title of the app suggests, kids can sing-along with one of their favorite songs while they play around on the farm too. Whether it’s tipping a cow, watching a cat drink milk, or causing bees to buzz around their hive, there’s plenty to discover within this app. Kids will get to interact with a pig, a horse, a cow, a duck, and a cat, along with all of the other objects and animals found within their individual scenes.

On the main screen of the app, kids have the option to play or tap on options to control the level of the music and sound effects in the game. In the free version, a large button encouraging kids to purchase the full version of the app also appears at the bottom of the screen, but it is protected with a parental lock. Once kids get past those minor distractions and tap the play button, they’re instructed to pick an animal and five different animal heads peer out at them. Some kids may pick their favorite of the five, while others will go straight for the pig because it’s first in the row. Whatever they choose, they won’t be disappointed. Each animal comes complete with an interactive scene full of lots of animations to find. At times the sound effects overpower the background music, which is a little disappointing considering each verse is only sung once, but kids will be so focused on the animations, they won’t really care.
This app is not being rated for education.
Each of the five animals comes with its own fun scene with a host of hidden animations. The game encourages kids to find them all by displaying the number of animations they found when they tap the back arrow to select another animation. While all of the scenes are entertaining, the highlight is the pig. Kids will have fun watching the pig slide through the mud over and over again. When they take a break and move to the other scenes, they’ll get to enjoy the horse, cow, duck, and cat too.
The app is free to download and comes with the pig scene unlocked. The other four animals come with the full version which is available through an in-app purchase. The app contains a lot of fun animations and kids will return to it, even though the animations in each scene stay the same. That alone may make it worth the price for toddlers and preschoolers.
Aside from the strong encouragement to buy the full version, kids will find themselves fully entertained by this app and not distracted by other features. It’s easy enough for toddlers to play and enjoy, but preschoolers will enjoy it too.
