CreAPPcuentos is an app that offers children an opportunity to create their own stories with loads of stickers, images, text, and music. The images used throughout the app are very well done and give little creators lots of freedom in creating awesome stories that they can share with friends and family. The user interface is also quite easy to use with simple drag and drop functions to add stickers and pictures to the story, however some of the more advanced features (voice recording and creating a visual recording of the story) might be a challenge for younger users. With that said, overall the quality of the app is very good.
While this isn’t your typical educational app, it does offer children a chance to get creative and with a bit of support they can learn how to structure a story with fun characters, an engaging plot, and outcome. Adding text and voice narration is also a great feature that allows children to practice typing and reading as they play along. The developers have also included a puzzle feature that allows players to use their problem solving skills to complete and design their own puzzles which is great.
For naturally creative children this app is a ton of fun. With essentially a blank canvas to create fun stories, add music, and narration children are going to love writing, narrating and sharing their stories with friends and family. The ‘design your own puzzle’ function allows children to create a scene and turn it into a puzzle to complete adding another activity for players to enjoy.
The basic version of this app is absolutely free and it includes one pirate-themed sticker pack that allows children to create their own pirate story. Additional sticker packs are available through in-app purchases that offer more options including princesses, robots, superheroes, animals etc. and an option to unlock all of the packs for just under ten dollars (individual packs are $1.99). This allows parents and children to try the app for free and if they like what they see, they can choose to purchase additional packs which is a great idea.
While there are some in-app purchases that can be seen within the app, the developers have done a nice job of keeping them protected links. The user interface is also pretty easy to use and the developers have included a bit of a ‘how to’ guide, but it’s a bit buried and not easy for young children to follow. Some of the more advanced features (recording, adding text etc.) might require the assistance of a parent or teacher, however adding a ‘how to’ video might be easier for children to understand.
