Overview

Send your kids on an adventure — or even 1000 adventures! This interactive storybook lets kids play a role in a young boy’s imagination as they accompany him on a variety of adventures. While the story doesn’t feature 1000 actual adventures, it does offer 12 pages of adventures. They range from interacting with wild animals and taming dinosaurs to eating food from aliens and defending a castle from invaders. Kids will learn to use their own imaginations as they transform each scene of the story from a typical every day activity to a world featuring a host of imaginative creatures and objects.

Features include:

  • 12 interactive pages
  • Adventurous background music
  • Animated characters
  • Select a page option

Quality

Read by a child-like voice, the book will encourage kids to join in on the adventure. Adventurous background music keeps them moving through the book and random sound effects, such as dogs barking and elephants trumpeting, add to the feel of the scenes. Kids will also appreciate the satisfying, yet mystical “swish” and cloud of smoke that accompanies each transformation as they change the normal scenes into their more adventurous counterparts.

Entertainment

Kids will relate to the simple, everyday scenes that start out each page and they’ll love seeing how those scenes transform the main character’s world into elaborate fantasy worlds. After the text is read aloud on each page, kids have to play an important role in the story. A red box at the top of the screen tells them how many items can be transformed on the page and it’s their job to slowly tap on each object and make it change. Tapping on the dog may turn it into a hippo and tapping on the main character may turn him into a superhero. It all depends on the adventure of the moment. Of course, once kids have transformed all of the objects in the room, they can also slowly bring reality back into the equation, transforming everything back to the way it was before the adventure.

Value

Not only do kids get to read a cute 12-page picture book, they also get to play a role in creating 12 different adventures. While the general activity on each page stays the same, the characters, animals, and objects kids discover when they tap on the specified objects to start the adventure.

Child Friendliness

A bright red box in the corner of each screen clearly displays how many items children must transform in the scene and counts down as they find them, displaying “congratulations” once the task is complete. While the last page of the book contains pictures of other DADA Company apps and a link to the DADA Company Facebook page, it does not contain any active links, keeping kids focused on the adventures in the story rather than discovering new adventures online.
