Audiobooks HQ give you access to an expansive list of over 5000 titles.  So, while the girls and I  coated the kitchen in flour and completed the holiday baking we listened to Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol. The timing couldn’t have been better. Not only did we share this classic Christmas tale in an unabridged version, but my youngest was actually introduced to the “real” story.  Until a last day of school trivia game, I was unaware that her most detailed exposure was the  Barbie version. (I guess I was worried that some of the representations out there were just a little too frightening and I sheltered her just a tad too much.)  The reading had rich voice talent that added depth to the story, rather than just a monotonous rendition and helped set us in the mood for Christmas cheer.  Preparing goodies wrapped in cellophane and  ribbon we felt to say “God Bless us, every one”.
As you’ll find with most of the titles, more than one version is available.  Audiobooks HQ give you the option to browse and search for your favorite reader. You can also limit your search by duration, for when you know you have only a set amount of time and want to finish an entire story.  Like this morning, while packing lunches and doing hair we listened to 1601: Conversation, as it was by the Social Fireside, by Mark Twain.  The reading was just under 20 minutes and brought a snicker from my 10 year-old when she realized it was a very refined and dignified conversation about a fart.

Audiobooks HQ also works as a great study reference.  The Adventures of  Huckleberry Finn was available as a quick review while we finished some last minute errands.  However, since it is still under copyright, To Kill a Mockingbird wasn’t included in the library.

The catalogs in the library contain listings available on the public domain, offered through LibriVox. LibriVox makes these titles available for free using a dedicated staff of volunteers who record chapters of books in the public domain and release the audio files back onto the net. Their goal is to make all public domain books available as free audio books and you can contact them if you wish to offer your time and talents, through the seller’s link.

So whether you are on the go or actually sitting around with your feet up, enjoy some me time with Audiobooks HQ.
