An adorable giraffe named Bo needs help with his dinnertime routine. Bo’s Dinnertime teaches children, in an entertaining way, what all goes into dinnertime; starting with grocery shopping and ending with cleaning up the table and dishes, after an ice cream dessert, of course. Mmm…, I like how Bo thinks.

Presented more as a series of mini games than storybook, Bo’s Dinnertime, gives children clear, easy-to-follow, verbal instructions of what is needed to help Bo. Each page is an educational mini game; children will need to choose the correct color, match shapes, count, sort and more. An additional mini game is available outside of the dinnertime portion of the app. Children can help Lulu or Tommy choose which foods they would like to eat for snack and then help them eat it.

The graphics, colors and music throughout the app are used to create such a happy, positive play-environment for children. Children and adults will both be able to use the app easily. Page arrows on each page and a home button at the end allow for easy navigating. Additional navigational features, such as thumbnails, to aide in moving around the dinnertime app would be a nice addition in a future upgrade.

Discretely located at the bottom of the main screen is an information button. The information section is designed for parents. It is here you will find suggestions on how the app could be used, external links (including social media buttons) and options for muting the sound and music. The app does not contain in-app purchases or ads.

Bo’s Dinnertime is a universal app that performs nicely on either device.

Bottom line

A delightful app that not only educates, Bo’s Dinnertime, also entertains.
Are mealtimes in your home sometimes a source of conflict rather than fun? If so, then Bo’s Dinnertime is the app for you. Bo, the colorful, cheerful giraffe, will help your child to learn about all the routines of a meal, from shopping through cooking and enjoying delicious food to washing up.

There are 10 scenes in the story, each exploring a step in the sequence of a complete meal. Help Bo to buy the groceries and pack them in the cupboard, recognizing and matching shapes as you go. Next learn to sort ingredients as you cook, complete a jigsaw to fix the broken tablecloth, then lay the table and practice counting as you serve the food. Learn good manners with Bo as he eats with a knife and fork, encourages you to wipe your fingers on a napkin and apologizes if he burps. Finally have fun cleaning a messy table, remembering to pop some bubbles as you wash the dirty dishes.

Features: imaginative storytelling; sorting; shape recognition and matching; colors; sequencing; and counting.
