Alphabet of Insects is a wonderful educational ebook (similar to Alphabet of Dinosaurs that we recently reviewed) that teaches children a wide variety of insects. Everything from aphids to zebra caterpillars is covered in this app and the developers have also included wonderful fun facts about each insect. With bright illustrations and engaging sound effects, this app is one children are going to love especially if they are already intrigued by the insect world.

- 26 Insects and fun facts
Alphabet of Insects certainly delivers in the quality department with wonderful illustrations, images, and audio that help to keep children engaged and learning. Each page offers a new insect to learn about and readers can easily tap and touch the illustrations and bold words to learn more in this easy to use interface. Oceanhouse Media always does a fantastic job of making their apps easy and fun to use and this app is no different. Along with the narration options, text highlighting, and voice record, there is a pages option that allows readers to select a specific page and in this case letter. While this feature is included in most (if not all) of the Oceanhouse Media apps, it is particularly useful as children may want to skip to certain letters easily.
Alphabet of Insects is one app that will teach children all kinds of great information about 26 insects. Things like what they eat, where they live, and how they grow are covered not only in the story, but also in the definitions that are provided for the words in bold. Children can also work on their reading skills by reading to themselves or following along with the narrator and text highlighting. The developers have also included a tap and touch feature that allows children to learn new words by tapping through the illustrations and images. As they tap the pictures, the word appears and the narrator will read the word aloud. With so much to learn, this app is great for use at home or in the classroom.
For insect lovers and avid readers, this app is quite entertaining though there are no additional activities for children to complete. With lively narration, 26 insects to learn about, and illustrations that allow for a bit of interaction, this storybook app is a fun read. With that said, it might be nice to include an additional activity for children to quiz themselves on the insects that are included or another activity to enhance the entertainment value a bit.
Priced at just under three dollars this app is a great deal. The educational information alone makes this ebook worth so much not to mention the text highlighting, voice record, narration options etc. With the potential for readers to practice their reading skills and learn so much great info about various insects, this is a great purchase.
With text highlighting, narration options, and an easy to use interface, this app is great for children of all ages.
