Meet the Insects: Village Edition is the second app in this interactive learning series that allows children to explore and learn about various insects in different environments. This particular installment provides ample information, pictures, videos, and even an observation journal for little explorers and will teach them all they need to know about various insects such as locusts, butterflies, lady bugs and so much more.
This app is perfect for all types of learners as it presents information in a variety of ways that will keep children engaged and excited to learn, something parents will certainly appreciate.
- Over 30 insects included
- Observation journal that allows children to upload their own insect photos
- Quiz options to test your knowledge
Meet the Insects: Village Edition has many opportunities for learning through various high quality photos and videos in the multimedia section as well as an insect gallery that allows children to tap on an insect to learn more information. There is narration throughout the application which is a nice touch since many of the scientific names for the insects can be difficult to pronounce.
The beautiful illustrations and animated insects throughout the application are very realistic and add to the already high quality features. Another wonderful feature is the observation journal that allows children to write their own observations and upload photos from their own insect expeditions allowing them to take the information they have learned and apply it in the world.
This is the perfect application for children who are interested in learning about various insects or those that need extra practice in that area. What I love the most about this app is that is includes various methods of learning so those who are visual, auditory, or more hands-on learners all have an opportunity to learn about the many insects included in the Village Edition. There are many areas where information is presented in text form, however it is also accompanied by narration so even younger children can enjoy the app as well.
The Insect Story provides basic information about insects before they get to the various species and is a good starting point for this app. With over 30 insects included, children learn the scientific names, where the insects can be found, what they eat, how they live and many other interesting facts, and with the various videos and pictures throughout they have an opportunity to see them in action. They also have the ability to test their knowledge on all they have learned with the true/false and photo quizzes available.
The observation journal is also a great feature that allows children to apply what they have learned as they explore their own neighborhoods for various insects to include. This also provides a great opportunity for parent and child to spend some quality time together as they go on their own insect expedition.
While this application isn’t likely to be fun for all children, it is a great app for little inquisitive explorers with an affinity for insects, bugs, and other creepy crawlers. They will certainly enjoy perusing the various pictures, videos, and fun facts as they expand their knowledge of insects.
Though this high quality app has a lot to offer in information, education, and entertainment, the cost is a bit pricey for what I would normally spend and it might deter some parents from purchasing it especially since the first installment is substantially cheaper. I think it would be best suited to be priced at the same level as the previous version.
With an intuitive, user-friendly design, this application is great for children of all ages and allows for self-directed learning with no instruction necessary. Children can scroll through the different insects freely, watch a variety of videos, and view photographs on their own and the narration throughout the application allows young readers to have fun as well.
There are no social media links or in app advertisements or purchase options, so it is completely safe for children to use without close parental supervision.
